I’ve broken a tooth, what should I do?

Your Oral Health Matters to Us

"I’ve broken a tooth, what should I do?"

  1. Contact the practice – our reception team will be pleased to find you an emergency appointment. It is important that you are seen as soon as possible so that the hole doesn’t get any bigger. Teeth rarely hurt until the hole is close to the middle of the tooth and at this point it can be difficult to save the tooth without a root canal filling.
  2. If you are away from home, you can purchase a temporary filling material from a chemist to fill up the hole. This can stop the tooth being sensitive and prevent it from making the rest of your mouth sore.
  3. If you are away from home and a member of our DPAS scheme, please see the emergency care section for further advice.
