Your Oral Health Matters to Us
Orthodontics at
St Giles Dental Newtown
At St Giles we offer two options for straighter teeth; clear aligners and fixed wire. We offer a free initial consultation where the dentist will look at your teeth and discuss what it is that you dislike about your current smile. We can then tell you about the various options available and possible costs.
Clear aligners have become increasingly popular, a way of moving your teeth discreetly, meaning that you can continue with every day activities, without everyone knowing that you are having your teeth straightened. The teeth are moved using a series of clear trays which fit snuggly over your teeth. Each tray is slightly different to the previous one and will progressively move your teeth into the desired position. It is important that the trays are worn continuously and should only be removed for eating and drinking, or to give them a clean.
Our fixed wire system is provided by 6 Month Smiles; unlike the “train-tracks” worn by teenagers, the brackets are clear and the wires tooth-coloured meaning that few people will be aware that you are having your teeth straightened. The advantage of fixed wires is that a bigger range of treatment can be carried out.
If you decide to go ahead, we will ask you to attend for an initial records visit. You will have impressions or a digital scan taken, and a number of photographs. Orthodontic technicians will take the records and, using specialist 3D software, start to plan your treatment, taking into account your objectives and your dentist’s instructions.
Your treatment plan will be sent directly back to St Giles, so we can show you how clear aligners or fixed braces can improve the position of your teeth and the end result that we are aiming for. At this stage we will be able to give you a clear idea of the likely timescale and costs involved.
Teeth can be straightened in as little as 3 months for minor issues but more complex cases can take 6-9 months to complete. Throughout this time your dentist will see you regularly to make sure that everything is proceeding according to plan.
As with any teeth straightening, retention will also be required to keep your teeth in their new position. There are different options, and your dentist will discuss these with you, prior to any commitment.
